Title: Senior Research Scientist

Affiliated Lab: Geotechnical and Structures Laboratory (GSL)

Research Focus:

Michael “Jason” Roth, PhD is the U.S. Army’s Senior Research Scientist for Weapons Effects and Structural Dynamics. He was selected for Senior Professional (ST) service to the U.S. Army in 2020 and is stationed at the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center in Vicksburg, Mississippi. In this role, Roth guides research and development on blast and ballistic effects against conventional and hardened structures, techniques for expedient battlefield protection, numerical methods to predict and understand the behaviors of structures and materials under extreme dynamic loads, and characterization of emerging threats effects against structures and systems. Roth provides leadership for the Army’s protection against Advanced Weapons Effects and Expedient Passive Protection S&T research areas, and supports collaborations across the Department of Defense, other government agencies, and international research communities.
